Congressman Juan Vargas Proudly Looks Back on his First 100 Days in Office
Congressman Juan Vargas (D-CA) issued the following statement highlighting the work that has been done for California’s 51st Congressional District during his first 100 days in office:
“It has been an absolute honor to represent the constituents of California’s 51st Congressional District these first 100 days. My offices and I have been working extremely hard to ensure that we are providing the variety and quality of services my constituents deserve.
“To date, I have cosponsored a number of important bills, including the Protecting and Preserving Social Security Act, Military Surviving Spouses Equity Act, Cross-Border Trade Enhancement Act, Violence Again Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, and the Rural Housing Preservation Act, to name a few. I have tirelessly fought against sequestration and cuts to programs such as Medicare and Social Security, supported legislation that promotes job growth, and successfully petitioned the President to include funding for infrastructure at our ports of entry in his budget.
“I am also proud to announce that my district offices have worked diligently on resolving over 160 constituent cases, ranging from Veterans affairs to immigration issues, sent out over 300 letters and responded to hundreds of phone calls and emails. In addition, I have hosted an immigration reform testimonial event, recognized residents of my district making a difference in the community as our Citizen of the Month, named a Woman of the Year, and met with numerous constituents in both San Diego and Imperial County.
“I would like to thank the people of the 51st Congressional District for the allowing me to represent them in Washington thus far. I look forward to continuing to strength our community and our nation in the years to come.”
